The Challenge:
Construction, Vibrations, Shocks
As the use of smart technologies to boost efficiency in industry grows, new challenges also arise. However—unsurprisingly—these challenges are best addressed with even more powerful, intelligent solutions.
Construction sites are a prime example: they serve as hubs for heavy machinery and automated processes. In addition to excavators, cranes, and other large equipment, numerous other systems are used here—ranging from video surveillance and automatic gates to RFID readers, diesel generators, and internet access for personnel.
All these applications have one thing in common: they rely on a stable and reliable network connection. Yet this is precisely where the challenge lies.
The operation of engines and heavy machinery generates strong vibrations that place significant mechanical stress on the entire infrastructure. Additionally, vibrations can result from uneven surfaces, potholes, tight curves, or sudden braking maneuvers.
In such environments, shocks are unavoidable. Therefore, the network devices used must be specifically designed for this purpose—with high vibration and shock resistance—to ensure reliable connectivity even under extreme conditions.

The Solution
Reliable IoT connectivity for demanding construction sites
Reliable connectivity in this industrial IoT solution is provided by the vibration- and shock-resistant TRB246 IoT gateway and the TSW304 unmanaged switch from Teltonika Networks.
A key advantage: Despite having only one RJ45 port, the TRB246 enables the connection of all stationary devices. This is achieved by using multiple TSW304 4-port switches, which connect both end devices and additional switches to one another. In this setup, a single connection to the gateway is sufficient to establish a seamless network.
This architecture offers a cost-effective network solution in which all devices are integrated into a single network. The TRB246 ensures maximum reliability with dual-SIM support, auto-failover, backup WAN, and advanced switching scenarios.
Both the gateway and the switches are housed in rugged aluminum enclosures and designed for industrial use. They operate reliably within atemperature range of -40 °C to +75 °C and offer high vibration and shock resistance.
Installing the TSW304 switches is incredibly simple: thanks to plug-and-play functionality, a compact design, and flexible mounting options (DIN rail or wall), they can be deployed quickly and easily.
The TRB246 also impresses with its compact dimensions and versatile interfaces such as RS232, RS485, and digital I/Os, allowing both modern and existing industrial systems to be seamlessly integrated.
Support for numerous industrial protocols such as Modbus TCP/RTU, BACnet, and MQTT, as well as common VPN technologies like Stunnel and ZeroTier, ensures maximum flexibility and security.
Thanks to its compatibility with Teltonika Networks’ Remote Management System (RMS), the TRB246 also enables centralized remote maintenance, firmware updates, and real-time data monitoring of all connected devices.
Conclusion:
Choose a robust, high-performance, and fail-safe network solution—and ensure stable operation even under extreme conditions.
